Instructions
  1. Cover work area with plastic table cover and have paper towels handy to protect against any possible spills. Gather supplies.
  2. For best results, prewash socks to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption. Leave damp.
  3. Fill small container with 4 cups of very hot water (140F). Wearing gloves, pour 4 teaspoons of well-shaken dye into dyebath; stir well.
  4. Add tablespoon of salt to dyebath to help intensify color and stir well.
  5. Test dye color by dipping paper towel into dyebath. If color is too light, add more dye; if it’s too dark; add more water.
  6. Place socks together and dip ankle portion of socks into dyebath. Move socks slowly up and down.
  7. When satisfied with color, remove socks from dyebath.
  8. Wearing rubber gloves, squeeze out excess dye and set socks aside. Continue dip dyeing pairs of socks in color of choice.
  9. Recommended: To enhance the color and reduce color bleeding, use Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative immediately after dyeing and before washing. Let socks set in fixative for 20 minutes.
  10. Rinse in cool water until water runs clear.
  11. Wash in warm water with mild detergent, rinse and dry.
