Treat Everyday like it's Earth Day

What if we told you that you can dramatically reduce your carbon footprint by reviving your old threads? Scroll down to love on the earth in new ways.

Back to Basics

Upcycling and restoring fabric is what’s really at the core of our 105-year old brand. Created well before fast-fashion, Rit was loved for giving handmade garments and linens new life back in the 50s and 60s—even our motto was “Don’t Buy it, Dye it.”

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

According to an Environmental Protection Agency study, 84% of the clothes you donate end up in a landfill or incinerator—that’s a lot. Enter Rit Dye.

Through a study done by Hult International Business School, we discovered that saving four shirts you love with one bottle of our non-toxic dye reduces your CO2 emissions by 74% compared to buying a new shirt.

Behind the Dye

We take safety seriously and have a strict program in place to prioritize and continuously restrict the use of priority chemicals in our products. Priority chemicals are ingredients that can cause serious effects to your health or the environment. When choosing ingredients, if there’s any chance that an ingredient isn’t safe, we don’t use it. As a result, we are proud to report that 100% of our dyes are non-toxic, septic-safe and never tested on animals.

Techniques + Tutorials

Ready to add a bit of sustainable practice to your wardrobe this year? Check out our tutorials to get started on your next upcycling project. Our All-Purpose Dyes are perfect for natural fibers like cotton but if your garment contains more than 40% polyester, we recommend using our Rit DyeMore for Synthetics.
