Instructions
  1. Before dyeing, remove any visible stains on the shoes and pre-wash in warm, soapy water without any fabric softener. This helps to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption. Dry shoes completely.
  2. Cover work area with plastic table cover and have paper towels handy to protect against any possible spills.
  3. Remove shoe insoles, laces and set aside.
  4. Cover the All-Star Patch with the sticker included in the kit.
  5. To protect the soles of your shoes from getting dyed, cover with vinyl or electrical tape.
  6. Fill a plastic container or stainless steel sink with three gallons of hot water. The water should ideally be 140ºF. If tap water is not hot enough, heat water on the stove and add to the dyebath.
  7. Add 1 teaspoon of dish detergent to help promote level dyeing.
  8. Add ½ cup of well-shaken All-Purpose Rit Dye or follow desired color formula recipe and mix well.

  9. Test color by dipping a paper towel into the dyebath. If color is too light, add more dye. If color is too dark, add more water.
  10. Before dyeing, run your Chucks under water to dampen thoroughly.
  11. Dip your Chucks into the dyebath sole-side up.
  12. Use tongs to keep them submerged for 10-30 minutes or until desired color is achieved
  13. Remove Chucks from dyebath and give it a quick rinse in cold water.
  14. Remove tape from soles immediately and rinse away dye that may have seeped in.
  15. Rinse in cool water until rinse water begins to run clear.
  16. Wash in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse and dry.
