Instructions

  1. Prewash your dress and leave damp.
  2. Fill dye pot with enough hot water (just below 200F) to submerge the top section of your dress to move freely, roughly 1-2 gallons.
  3. Add one tsp of dish detergent to help promote level dyeing.
  4. Wearing rubber gloves, shake Rit bottle really well. Pour half a bottle (1/2 cup) of dye into dyebath and mix well.
  5. Immerse top half of the damp dress into dyebath and continuously pull up and down for 5-10 minutes with tongs to create a smooth gradient.
  6. When desired color is achieved, remove dress from the dyebath and rinse just the dyed area in warm water, then gradually cool.
  7. Repeat Steps 2-6 with a second color to dip dye the bottom of the dress.
  8. Machine wash your dress on gentle cycle with an old towel in cold water with mild detergent and hang dry.
