4th of July Kid's T-Shirt
Kid projects are a favorite at Rit, especially when we can incorporate a holiday with the project. These 4th of July themed t-shirts are festive and fun, and your kids will love helping out. Learn how to turn a plain white t-shirt into a dip-dyed 4th of July favorite below!
- White Kid's T-Shirt
- Rit All-Purpose Liquid Dye (We used Cherry Red and Navy Blue)
- Container for Dye
- Rubber Bands
- Rubbers Gloves
- Plastic Table Cover
- Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative (Recommended)

Cover work area with plastic table cover and have paper towels handy to protect against any possible spills.

Prewash t-shirt, rinse and leave damp.

Lay out damp t-shirt flat on your work surface, gather or fold fabric vertically and tie rubber bands to split shirt into three sections.

Wearing gloves, mix 1/2 cup of well-shaken Cherry Red All-Purpose Dye with 2 quarts of very hot water in a container and stir well. In another container, mix 1/2 cup of Navy Blue All-Purpose Dye with 2 quarts of very hot water.

Carefully immerse the top third of the shirt into the Cherry Red dyebath.

Immerse the bottom third of the shirt into the Navy Blue dyebath.

Use Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative after dyeing and before washing to enhance the color, increase color retention and prevent dye from bleeding in to white areas. Follow instructions on package.

Rinse in cool water until water runs clear.

Cut away rubber bands and unfold shirt to reveal pattern.

Hand wash in warm water with mild detergent, rinse and dry.
