Rit will not cover a stained or sun-faded area.  For stain spots, try to remove the stains using Rit Super Stain Remover.  For faded areas, try to remove the color using Rit Color Remover. This will remove or reduce the overall color bringing it to an off-white or cream color. Then re-dye the item.
